Talking Supercars with Design Legend Sasha Selipanov On the InEVitable Podcast
We talk to the man who designed the Bugatti Chiron among others.0:00 / 0:00
It's weird to call someone a legend when they're barely 40, but that's the case with this week's guest, outlaw designer Sasha Selipanov. Why legend? Over a career, it's rare for a car designer to get one sportscar into production, let alone a supercar, and ever more extraordinarily, a hypercar. Well guess what? Selipanov is credited with the exterior design of the Lamborghini Huracán , as well as the Bugatti Chiron , and the both the Koenigsegg Gemera and 850cc. While it never made it into production, Selipanov also had a hand in the beautiful Genesis Essentia concept . A pretty legendary resume, we'd say. Just one of the above would write the designer's name into the history books, but all of them? The stuff of legend. And Sasha's just getting started.
Hailing from the former Soviet Union, Selipanov didn't grow up around fancy cars. In fact, his first love as a future designer was airplanes. This changed after a visit to see his grandfather. After that, he made his way to Art Center here in Southern California. From there, Selipanov was back to Germany, as a young designer for Volkswagen. Most of the rest is summarized above and discussed in great detail on this week's episode. Currently Selipanov is hard at work with his design consulting firm, Hardline27, with offices in Berlin and Los Angeles.
