There are important updates on the R1S and R1T this year, but what’s next is more exciting.

Cool—but what’s really cool is what’s coming soon. The R2 is nearly ready for production, and the R3 concept remains very desirable. However, it’s recently come to light that there are new Rivian models in the works beyond those, bringing fresh speculation about what’s in Rivian’s plans. We’re not so sure ourselves, but we know everything new for 2026, so start here.
2026 Rivian R1S
A NACS charging port becomes standard on the R1S for 2026, allowing the R1S to plug in at Tesla Supercharger stations without an adapter. Rivian’s groundbreaking quad-motor powertrain becomes available again, extensively reengineered to provide even higher performance than the original iteration. Throughout 2026, additional software functionality will be added to the R1S via over-the-air update. Google Maps integration on the R1S’ infotainment and Rivian’s app is one example of that.
Although only a one-off that’s already been sold, the R1S Quad Pebble Beach Edition was introduced to showcase Rivian’s customization capabilities. Covered in exclusive hand-finished details, the R1S Pebble Beach heralds the new Rivian Studio Originals project.

2026 Rivian R1T
With a NACS port now built in on every 2026 R1T, charging Rivian’s truck at Tesla Supercharger stations no longer requires an adapter. Above the dual- and tri-motor powertrains, a quad-motor system where each wheel is controlled by a dedicated motor returns to the top of the R1T range. Regular software updates will continually improve the R1T’s tech, such as the recent addition of Google Maps.

2027 Rivian R2
Rivian’s upcoming smaller and more affordable EV SUV, the R2, continues to move toward production. A dedicated assembly line is being set up at Rivian’s plant in Normal, Illinois, and camouflaged R2 prototypes have been seen driving near the automaker’s Irvine, California, headquarters. Official specifications, details, and pricing—or if a pickup truck variant will be part of the lineup—remain unknown, but progress on the 2027 Rivian R2 appears to be proceeding apace.

2027 Rivian R3
Even smaller—but maybe even cooler—is the Rivian R3. This high-riding hatchback drips with rad retro styling and modern appeal. Its high-performance R3X version promises to be an off-road riot. Still in development, the R3 will hopefully go on sale for model year 2027 or 2028.

Rivian R4, R5, R6
In a recent interview, Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe revealed the brand’s lineup could eventually comprise five or six different vehicles. He confirmed an R4 and R5 are parts of the future product plan while speculating that an R6 could join, as well. Scaringe didn't give any other hints about the vehicles, so how they might shape up remains unclear. But as Rivian works to define itself, developing models that appeal to new market segments is a high priority.
