The 2025 Volkswagen ID Buzz EV could be the start of the next van revolution originally started by its VW Bus grandpa and the next major jump in the "van life" movement. Volkswagen gave the new three-row ID Buzz a grand reveal in Huntington Beach, Calif.—AKA "Surf City"—which is fitting considering the Buzz's pedigree. We also got some quality time with the new Volkswagen ID Buzz in our first look .

In case it isn't immediately obvious from the pictures, the three-row, U.S.-spec ID Buzz is almost 10 inches longer than the two-row trim (which America won't get). The wheelbase on the three-row has been stretched out by 9.8 inches, which brings the vehicle's total length to 192.4 inches. We learned during our first look that VW is taking full advantage of the extra length in the three-row ID Buzz by giving it a larger 91-kWh battery pack—versus the 82-kWh pack in the two-row ID Buzz—and stronger 282 horsepower electric motor.

Volkswagen has been showing off the two-tone ID Buzz, and while we think the dual color scheme looks great, we were very interested in what the EV looks like in its monochrome duds. Luckily for us, VW brought a few of those out to the reveal event and our photographer had a chance to see it up close. Enjoy the rest the images from the reveal event at the beach!

Darth Vader, Your Soccer Van Has Arrived

This is one of our first looks at a monochromatic 2025 Volkswagen ID Buzz three-row. Here it's seen in all black which honestly to us makes it look like Darth Vader's soccer van. Don't get us wrong though, that is certainly not a bad thing! Even a Sith lord needs to pick up their kids from practice. Why not look good doing it while reducing your carbon footprint?

Sinister or Slightly Simple?

The all-black 2025 Volkswagen ID Buzz looks somewhat sinister from the rear quarter view, especially with the accents on D-pillar. By the way, those accents appear to always come in black regardless of the particular color scheme of the vehicle. It looks like the same is true of the wheels. That could mean choosing a black ID Buzz from the dealer can be a shortcut to stealth mode.

There's the two-tone that we're more familiar with, which subjectively seems to match the van's character more than the monochrome black one.

That said, we're assuming some of these will be used for small businesses and it's probably easier to partially wrap a single-color car to highlight the message the business might want to send. Or if the owner just wants to blend in more. This orange and white model certainly doesn't blend in—and that's exactly the point.
