Overlanding in a 2002 Chevy Avalanche? Yes, Please!

Peter Hansen and his girls don't need much to go out and see it all.

"I've owned this vehicle since it was new," said overlander Peter Hansen about his 2002 Chevy Avalanche. Since then, he hasn't needed to add much to it to make the truck capable of getting himself and his two daughters out into the wilderness. Sometimes, he tows a trailer behind the Avalanche when more gear is required, but for the 2020 Overland Adventure, Peter left it at home.

The 2002 Chevy Avalanche received a Pro Comp 6-inch lift with Rancho shocks to make space for the 35-inch mud-terrain tires and makes good use of the factory rear locking differential. To make space for adventure equipment, Peter installed a Yakima rack above the bed using a custom-built mount. Read on for more on Peter's 2002 Chevy Avalanche overland rig.
