For all the space of the largest SUVs but at a more manageable sticker price, there’s no beating a minivan. Toyota has one of the best, the Sienna, which has been hauling families since the late 1990s. Redesigned for 2021 and heavily updated last year, competitors are few and include the Honda Odyssey, Chrysler Pacifica, and Kia Carnival.

What We Think

Toyota makes the most of the Sienna’s cavernous interior with smart storage solutions and a functional layout. Upgrades for 2025 massively improved the infotainment system and bring in a faster, more efficient wireless phone charger.

There’s also a new onboard vacuum that’s conveniently mounted in the front center console (and not in the back of the van like the Honda Odyssey). Although space is strong, the third-row windows make the ride back there somewhat claustrophobic. Additionally, the second row is not removable like it is in some competitors.

Driving manners are appropriate for a tall, big family hauler. The Sienna’s suspension is comfortable and well-tuned, and efficiency is solid with the standard hybrid powertrain. Power delivery is smooth, too, but in some situations under part throttle the engine sounds thrashy and unrefined. The Sienna isn’t a bad choice, but options from Honda and Chrysler deliver more grunt.

MotorTrend Tested

Every Sienna FWD is equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two forward electric motors. The AWD model adds a third motor to the rear axle. Regardless of configuration, combined output is 245 hp, and in the Sienna it is sent through a CVT automatic.

That’s enough power to propel the minivan to 60 mph in a MotorTrend-tested 7.6 seconds. The Sienna is quicker than the Kia Carnival Hybrid, which needs 7.9 seconds to get from 0 to 60 mph. For a properly quick minivan, there’s the Honda Odyssey, which charges from 0 to 60 in just 6.8 seconds.

MPGs and Range

Front-wheel-drive versions of the 2026 Toyota Sienna are rated at 36/36 mpg city/highway. All-wheel-drive models take a slight hit to their city rating for an EPA-appraised 35/36 mpg. The Kia Carnival is only offered with front-wheel drive and is less efficient than the Sienna with either of its drivetrains. Kia’s hybrid minivan returns 34/31 mpg.

Safety Ratings and Features or Safety and Driver Assist Features

The 2026 Toyota Sienna earns NHTSA’s highest distinction, a five-star overall safety rating, Last year, it was awarded IIHS’ second highest accolade, a 2025 Top Safety Pick.

Standard Features

Standard driver assists include blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) suite. The Sienna is the last Toyota to come with TSS 2.0, as most of the lineup has moved on to version 3.0 of the system (some are on 2.5 or 2.5+, as well).

The older bundle features less advanced versions of the pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, automatic high-beams, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, and road sign assist. Among other features, the newer system integrates Proactive Driving Assist, which applies gentle braking and steering inputs for safe cornering.

Available Features

All trims starting with the 2026 Toyota Sienna XLE FWD receive front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking. A 360-degree camera view with a curb view is exclusive to the top-level Platinum AWD variant.

Cargo Space and Interior Room

The Sienna’s third-row legroom compares favorably to the Pacifica and Carnival, but cargo capacity isn’t as good in most configurations.

Technology

Infotainment

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a phone charging pad remain standard with every Sienna. Base models feature an 8.0-inch touchscreen and a 7.0-inch screen in the gauge cluster.

Upgrades include a 12.3-inch infotainment interface and a 12.3-inch driver display. There’s also an available rear 11.6-inch display for passengers. Seven USB ports are standard across the entire lineup.

Sound System

The Sienna LE base model gets a new eight-speaker sound system for 2026, up two speakers from 2025. A 12-speaker JBL premium audio is available as the Sienna’s premium setup.

Available Upgrades

Further options consist of a digital rearview mirror, four-zone climate control, onboard vacuum, and FridgeBox junior refrigerator. Models beginning with XLE FWD gets dual hands-free sliding doors. A vacuum and refrigerator are standard on the Sienna Platinum AWD.

Value

Standard Features

The base-level 2026 Toyota Sienna LE comes equipped with a hybrid powertrain and front-wheel drive. It rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels and comes with standard black roof rails as standard equipment.

Inside the cabin, Toyota outfits the Sienna LE with three-zone climate control, a 7.0-inch gauge cluster display, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, and seven USB ports. It comes standard with the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 suite of active assistance features. Pricing for the 2026 Toyota Sienna LE begins just under $42,000.

Recommended Trim

Toyota offers the 2026 Sienna in a total of six trims: LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, Woodland Edition, and Platinum. Of these models, we think the XSE is the best buy. It receives the upgraded 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument cluster of the same size.

Toyota also outfits this model with a 12-speaker audio system from JBL. The Sienna XSE receives captain’s chairs for the second row and a stowable third row. It’s flashier than the other Sienna trims as the only model to roll on 20-inch dark wheels. Pricing begins just under $50,000.
