What We Think

After a string of underwhelming entry-level SUVs, Cadillac finally breaks the cycle with the impressive Optiq.

This compact EV cleverly borrows the striking design, high-end tech, and robust battery architecture of its larger Lyriq sibling, yet it manages to carve out a distinct identity of its own.

Electric SUV showcasing a modern design.

The 2027 Optiq’s cabin is a highlight, centered around a massive, curved display and accented by premium materials crafted from sustainable sources. Audiophiles will appreciate the standard sound system, which was purpose-built to take full advantage of immersive Dolby Atmos integration.

Behind the wheel, the Optiq delivers the polished, serene experience you’d expect from a luxury badge. While the suspension feels a touch stiff and the handling isn't exactly sporty, the power is plentiful and the one-pedal driving mode is exceptionally well-calibrated for smooth city transit. One important note: The steering is on the slower side, which makes it feel slightly less nimble.

Although the Optiq’s road manners are pleasant overall, its electric vitals are a mixed bag. Driving range is competitive, but public fast-charging speeds lag behind some rivals. MotorTrend-tested range and charging speed are especially a problem with the Optiq-V model, which isn’t as fun to drive as rivals.

Even so, the mainstream models of the Optiq represent a solid choice. Cadillac’s gateway SUV is more desirable than it has been in years.

Top-Ranked Competitors:

MotorTrend Tested

The top-tier Optiq-V is Cadillac’s most potent variant. Its dual-motor setup generates 519 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, delivering a 0–60-mph sprint in just 3.4 seconds during testing.

The standard, non-V all-wheel-drive model produces a respectable 440 hp and 498 lb-ft, reaching 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. Meanwhile, the entry-level rear-wheel-drive version utilizes a single motor to provide 315 hp and 332 lb-ft, with an estimated 0–60-mph time of approximately 6.0 seconds.

All of these acceleration figures are going to feel impressive or perfectly sufficient when you need passing power.

EV Range and Charging

Every Cadillac Optiq utilizes an 85-kWh battery, delivering competitive estimates of 317 miles for RWD and 303 miles for AWD variants. The high-performance Optiq-V sees a dip, with range estimated between 250 and 278 miles. In real-world MotorTrend Road-Trip Range testing, the AWD and Optiq-V covered 240 miles and 189 miles, respectively.

With a maximum charge rate of 150 kW, the Optiq falls short of top-tier figures in the segment. Cadillac claims it can recoup 76 miles in 10 minutes under ideal conditions; however, our testing showed more modest gains of 73 miles in 15 minutes for the AWD and 68 miles for the Optiq-V. This may be a small issue when traveling, but if you have home charging, it won’t be a big deal.

Safety Features

  • Super Cruise hands-free driving technology
  • Front and rear automatic emergency braking
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Side cross-traffic alert
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Lane keeping
  • Automatic high-beams
  • Intersection collision avoidance

Cargo Space and Interior Room

The 2027 Optiq boasts a spacious cabin that compares well against its Audi and Genesis rivals. Although the Optiq is a segment leader in overall roominess, the Genesis GV60 offers slightly more front legroom.

Technology

Infotainment

Inside the 2027 Optiq, the centerpiece is a massive 33.0-inch digital display that dominates the dashboard, encompassing driver and infotainment displays. The interface runs on a Google built-in ecosystem, providing seamless native access to apps like Google Maps.

However, be aware that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are omitted from the software suite. The cabin is otherwise well-connected with four standard USB-C ports and a dedicated wireless charging pad.

Sound System

All Optiq variants are equipped with a 19-speaker AKG Studio sound system.

Available Upgrades

The Optiq is well-equipped in its most basic form, but moving up the trim walk unlocks features like a head-up display, driver’s seat memory settings, and ventilated seats.

Value

Standard Features

The Optiq is a tech showcase, every version coming with standout features like Super Cruise self-driving and the SUV’s massive Horizon display.

Other standard technologies include power heated front seats, a digital rearview mirror, a digital key, and rain-sensing wipers. Pricing for the 2027 Optiq Luxury starts at approximately $53,500.

For the most value, stick with the mainstream variants. As interesting as the Optiq-V is, other luxury-branded electric SUVs do a better all-around job with their sporty performance variants.
