2026 Acura Integra Type S Expert Review

Acura has resurrected its Type S sub-brand with sportier variants of nearly all its models, but one car stands out as a top choice for driving enthusiasts: the 2026 Integra Type S. With its wide stance, potent engine, and engaging handling, it’s the pinnacle of Acura’s sport compact lineup.
The Integra Type S has the firepower to take on rivals such as the Audi S3 and Cadillac CT4-V.
What’s New
Although the wider Integra lineup receives more substantial upgrades this year with the model’s midcycle refresh, changes to the 2026 Type S are limited to new Solar Silver Metallic, Urban Gray Pearl, and Double Apex Blue Pearl paint colors. The cabin receives a revised trim pattern on the dash and a faster processor for the touchscreen.
Considering the Type S variant launched the model year after standard Integra debuted, Acura could be reserving more serious upgrades for 2027.
What We Think
As the hotted-up version of the excellent Acura Integra, the Type S model has even more to love. Few cars can be balanced daily drivers and capable on the track, but the Integra Type S has managed both in our testing.
Strong braking, incredible grip in the corners, and ample acceleration out of an apex give drivers the tools they need to set scorching lap times, yet the chassis is communicative and leaves you with some margin for error.
In the car’s most comfortable setting, the Integra Type S is quiet and pleasant. Hatchback practicality furthers the sport compact’s appeal as a daily driver.
Criticizing the Integra Type S is an act of nitpicking, but we have a few notes that shoppers should take into consideration.
The first is an overdamped clutch pedal, presumably to protect the driveline from the shock of sudden high-rpm engagement. Second, the Integra Type S only seats four, which can be limiting when you need to haul an extra person in a pinch. Finally, the Honda Civic Type R is less expensive than its Acura sibling by a good margin and only loses the slightest bit of performance, making it a better value.
Still, if you can overlook these minor drawbacks—a simple task given the car's exceptional driving experience—the Acura Integra Type S stands out among sport compacts. Its blend of performance, comfort, and practicality is difficult to beat.

Acura offers the 2026 Integra Type S with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine churning out 320 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual and front-wheel drive are equipped on all Integra Type S models. Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph takes just 5.2 seconds, making it a full 2.4 seconds quicker than the standard Integra A-Spec with either the manual or CVT automatic.
The competing 2026 BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupe also features a 2.0-liter turbo inline-four but it makes 312 hp and 301 lb-ft of torque and comes with all-wheel drive. It can sprint to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds.
MPGs and Range
The Type S is the most exciting Integra to drive, but its fuel economy is the worst in the lineup. For 2025, ratings came in at 21/28 mpg city/highway. Total range with a full tank is an estimated 298 miles.
Despite the BMW having AWD, it gets better fuel economy than the Acura, returning 24/33 mpg. It can also go farther, with 356 miles of total range.
Safety Features
Every 2026 Acura Integra Type S comes standard with the AcuraWatch suite of active safety tech, including:

Cargo Space and Interior Room
The Integra Type S has a spacious interior for the class. Its back seat can comfortably accommodate two adult passengers. The cargo volume of hatchbacks and sedans is measured differently, so this is an imperfect comparison. That said, the Integra’s large rear opening allows for the easy transportation of bigger objects.

Infotainment
Every 2026 Integra Type S receives a 10.2-inch driver display and 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A wireless charging pad is standard, as are single USB-A and USB-C ports.
Sound System
Type S models come with a 16-speaker ELS Studio 3D premium sound system.
Available Upgrades
As the top model in the Integra lineup, the Type S comes loaded. Add-ons are limited to premium exterior paint colors, floor mats, wheels, wheel locks, wheel valve stem caps, mudflaps, roof racks, and exterior carbon-fiber embellishments.
Value
Type S models offer the highest power and performance in the Integra lineup. They’re fun to drive, come in a versatile hatchback body style, and include impressive tech features like a 16-speaker sound system and a comprehensive suite of driver assists.What the Integra lacks in outright power, it compensates with a surprisingly well-rounded package.
Additional Performance Hardware
The 2026 Acura Integra Type S is much more than its engine and manual transmission. A wide-body stance and 19-inch wheels with summer tires supply tremendous grip in the corners. A big Brembo brake kit ups stopping power. Acura bestows the hottest Integra with a Type S-specific exhaust that’s instantly recognizable with its three tips. Handling and stability are enhanced with a performance-oriented adaptive suspension and standard limited-slip differential.
